Back up and restore your memories
For the current Pets Forever app, now available on Android and iPhone, including TestFlight testers.
Your memories are stored on your device. Pets Forever does not provide a cloud account or automatic synchronization. Keep a separate backup before changing phones, removing the app, or deleting content you may want later.
Save a backup
- Select the pet you want to back up.
- Open Settings → Export & Backup.
- Tap Save Backup → Choose Folder. Select a destination and complete the folder selection. On Android, if Use this folder is unavailable, create and open a new folder first.
- Wait for Backup saved, then check that the ZIP file exists in your selected folder.
- Repeat for each pet. One backup contains the currently selected pet, not every pet in the app.
You can also tap Share Backup → Create and Share, then choose a destination from your phone’s share screen. On iPhone, use Save to Files when offered. Check the destination to confirm the file arrived: closing the share screen alone does not save an external copy. Some messaging apps cannot send ZIP files or large attachments.
Keep a copy somewhere you can reach if your phone is lost, such as your own protected cloud storage or computer. Keep the original ZIP intact; you do not need to extract or rename it. Backups contain personal content, so share them only with people or services you choose.
What is included?
The current pet’s profile and appearance, active and recently removed memory records, available managed photos and original sounds, the saved Memory Book draft, and Saved Books PDFs assigned to that pet. Assign any earlier unassigned PDFs to a pet in Saved Books before backing up.
If the app reports unavailable photos, those missing files cannot be included. A backup is a snapshot; create another after adding important memories or books.
Restore a backup
- Make the original backup ZIP available on the receiving phone.
- Open Settings → Export & Backup → Restore a Backup.
- Tap Choose Backup ZIP and select the file.
- Wait for the check to finish, then review the pet name and contents shown.
- Tap Restore as New Pet and confirm.
- After Backup restored, check the restored photos, stories, sounds, and saved PDFs.
Restoring adds a separate pet and leaves existing pets unchanged. Repeating a restore can create another copy. If the app reports a damaged backup or a plan limit, keep the original ZIP and follow the message before trying again.
Restoring Premium is separate
Restore purchases restores eligible Premium access through your store account, not your pet memories. Use Settings → Premium & Purchases → Restore purchases with the same store account on the same platform.
